Yesterday was the 1st Annual Crewfest! It was soooooooo much fun. It makes me more excited for when we do another one next year. :)
We all left for Put in Bay at 9:30 am and got to the ferry boat dock around 10:45. We took the 11am ride to the island. There were 10 of us in our group even though it was mostly 7 of us that stuck together the whole time. When we first got there 7 of us decided to walk instead of paying for transportation (which was probably our best decision) and then 3 went and took the bus and we hardly saw them after that. They ended up being the ones that missed out. Although the walk took us an hour to get to downtown Put in Bay from the ferry boat it was most epic. We were sweaty and singing random songs for most of the way along with random conversation.
When we first got downtown we were pretty much starving. I hadn't eaten breakfast and for the others breakfast was already digested. We ate at Frosty's Pizza and Bar which is my favorite place to eat on the island because of their amazing pizza. We got the family special which included a 12 inch pizza, a huge salad, drinks and breaksticks all of which are amazingness. After eating we walked into some of the shops downtown and relaxed in the park while taking some pictures and going on the swings. After that we walked over to Perry's monument where 4 of us went up to the top and 3 of us stayed in the grass and relaxed while waiting for the others to get done. I kind of wish I did go to the top so I could have gotten some pictures from above because when I was there before I was younger and didn't have a camera. But oh well, next time I swear I'll do it for the pictures :)
We then did another walking journey to get to Perry's cave which seemed like nothing after the walk we did earlier. The cave tour was exactly how I remembered it from 3 years ago but it was nice seeing it again and being able to better compare it to the other caves I've been in this year and seeing it with the whole gang. They still give the same stickers at the end hehe. Stephanie and I then did the gem hunt and bought the bags of dirt to sift in the "river" for the hidden gems. We both found some really good ones. It was running at 7pm when we finished all of this. There were some of us that wanted to go to the beach so we could wash the sweat from all day off and cool ourselves down. That lake had never felt so refreshing! It was the perfect time to be at the beach because nobody was there! It was just us and the coastline. Although it isn't much of a beach, its just big hard rocks that kill your feet when you step on them. We then had a trek back to the ferry dock and meet up with the others who didn't go to the beach. There was a Scoops ice cream place right by the dock so we all bought ice cream. I had amazing Macinac island fudge ice cream. Out of all of those times I've been up by Macinac I had never had their fudge. Now I know the amazingness. It was the perfect ending to our epic day as the sun set on the lake. We took the last ferry out at 9pm. Seagulls flew right next to us on the boat which was pretty cool seeing them so close while they fly.
It was pretty much an epic adventure. I'm really glad we didn't rely on transportation while on the island. We saved some of the environment and were able to take in some of the island that is usually passed quickly by when people visit it. We found random stuff on the side of the road, like a pair of sunglasses and a bottle opener shaped like a palm tree, saw a small plane take off at their little airport and even found some nice flowers. I love my crew <3
