I had a great time with Evan today. First we watched the Emperors New Groove, which I have never seen but now I have! Then we made some spaghetti for dinner. Which I don't know what it is about our spaghetti that makes it so amazing. It just is. He bought me some chocolate covered strawberries <3 and we played video games and just had a good time.
The Story of Psyche and Eros (Cupid)-which will be very brief because I don't feel like typing the whole thing out.
There was a peasant girl named Psyche who was worshiped by her town as the Goddess of Beauty. This title really belonged to Aphrodite and she grew very jealous and sent her son Eros down to earth to put a potion on her that will make her fall in love with a hideous monster. Once Eros saw her he was stricken by her beauty and then pricked her and him with one of his arrows.
A few years went by and Psyche could not find a husband so she went to the Oracle to see what the hell was going on. The Oracle told her she was doomed to marry a monster who lived on a mountain. Psyche, accepting her doom, waited at the bottom of the mountain on a rock to be taken to the top. She was swooped up by a cloud and lifted to a beautiful house. She was then wed to a husband she was sworn never to see. Her husband was Eros himself. He was very kind and generous to her but her curiosity grew and she wanted to see him. One night while he was sleeping she went into his room with a candle. Once she saw who he was she sort of freaked and spilled candle wax on him. This, waking him up, made him fly out the window. The beautiful house then disappeared and Psyche was left alone. Once Aphrodite found out she had been betrayed, she banished Psyche to do difficult tasks.
The first task was to take a large pile of different grains and sort them into individual piles, granule by granule. Eros flew down and helped Psyche with her task.
The second was to get golden fleece from a special herd of sheep. The river god advised her when to do this.
The third task is to retrieve a vial of water from the River Styx (hell) and a box of magic makeup from Persephone (Hades wife) which she cannot open. Psyche knew she obviously couldn't do this as a mortal. The only way she would be able to do that was to kill herself. Just as she is about to jump off a tower the tower tells her a way to get to the underworld and back without having to die. She goes and retrieves the items and makes it back to earth. Curiosity once again makes Psyche open the box and is placed into a great sleep. Eros awakens her from her sleep and goes to Zeus to help him be with her. Zeus gives Psyche Ambrosia which makes her immortal. Eros took Psyche in his arms and has never let her go.
Well, the reason for this story is because this is how Evan and I met. We we're paired to do a project on this story out of random selection by Mrs. Horton, our Myths and Legends teacher. If we were never paired to do this story of love we probably never would have spoken. Since today is the day of honor for Cupid (well now its St. Valentine but whatever) I decided to put this story on here since it is very important to me. Even though it sounds like a combination of many Disney movies.
